The North Bellarine Film Festival will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Stanley Kramer’s On the Beach with a special screening of the cult 1959 drama on Saturday, May 4 at 7 pm.


It will be shown with the Lawrence Johnston documentary, Fallout, that discusses the film in the context of the times, exploring the politics and social history of the 1950s.

The double feature will be screened in the Portarlington Neighbourhood House with refreshments served at interval. Tickets are available on line at $15/ $12 concession and under 18s by clicking on the link below.


On the Beach was made in Melbourne and adapted for the screen from the best-selling book by Nevil Shute. It tells the apocalyptic story of nuclear war and its aftermath.


The film stars Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire and Anthony Perkins.
